With today's win Aleksander Aamodt Kilde claims the Downhill Crystal Globe. He also won the discipline Globe in 2021-2022.
Kilde and Aksel Lund Svindal are the only Norwegian skiers to win the Downhill crystal globes more than once. Svindal won it in 2012-2013, and 2013-2014.
Kilde won six of the nine Men's World Cup Downhill races in the 2022-2023 season. He is the first man to have won six World Cup Downhill events in a single season since Stephan Eberharter in 2002-2003 (6). The only skiers to win more than six World Cup Downhill events in a single season were Annemarie Moser-Pröll (8 in 1972-1973), and Franz Klammer (8 in 1974-1975).
"It is amazing to be a part of this fight with the top athletes in the world. To be able to win the crystal globe is incredible. It is so fun and just have to keep on pushing and try to do it next year again", said Kilde.
Olympic Super-G World Champion James Crawford finished in second place 0.61 seconds behind Kilde. It's his third podium this season.
“I had a few mistakes which kept me off the pace of Kilde. All in all, after how the training runs were going, I am really happy with the race. After world champs and getting good results there, I relaxed on the season. My big goal was to win a race, so I settled down after and had less pressure which makes it easier to go out and do what I know how to do", said Crawford.
Olympic Champion Marco Odermatt rounded out the podium in third place 0.63 seconds behind the Norwegian. It is the seventeenth podium for Odermatt this season but the Swiss is still chasing his first World Cup Downhill win.
"I am very happy with the podium here in Aspen. It is not the easiest track for me because I like a little bit steeper so it is a really good result", said Odermatt.
Vincent Kriechmayr, the only man with chances until today to win the Crystal Globe, finished in fourth place. Kriechmayr is the only man besides Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to win a World Cup Downhill event this season.
