Alpine Ski World Champions: Kjetil André Aamodt



Kjetil André Aamodt (Oslo, September 2, 1971) is the only Alpine skier to win 8 Olympic medals and has won 5 World Championship gold medals, -Aamodt's combined career total of 20 World Championship and Olympic medals is an all-time best-, and 21 individual World Cup races. An all-round alpine skier, Aamodt participated in all Alpine Ski disciplines in the World Cup and World Championships and is one of only five male alpine skiers to have won a World Cup race in all five disciplines.


After winning a silver medal in the Super-G in the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1991 held in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and a gpöd medal in Albertville 1992, one year later Aamodt won two gold medals, this time in Giant Slalom and Slalom, at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1993 held in Morioka, Japan. He also won a silver medal in the Combined event.


The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Spain at Sierra Nevada near Granada were to be held in 1995 but were postponed to 1996 due to a lack of snow. The Norwegian won a bronze medal in the Super-G.


In 1997 in Sestriere, he added a new World Championship gold medal in the Combined discipline.


At the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1999 held in February in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado, Aamodt won another two medals, a gold in the Combined and a bronze medal in the Downhill.


In St. Anton, Austria, in 2001 Aamodt achieved his last gold medal in an Alpine World Ski Championships. He also added to his record a silver medal in the Giant Slalom.


After winning two Olympic titles in Salt Lake in 2002 in Super-G and Alpine Combined Kjetil André Aamodt at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in 2003 achieved his last two medals, silver in Downhill and bronze in Combined.
