Federica Brignone claimed her first career Downhill Crystal Globe after the Sun Valley final race was canceled due to strong gusts of wind.
Brignone secured the Downhill title with a total of 384 points. Last season's Downhill World Cup winner Cornelia Hütter (368), along with Sofia Goggia (350), took second and third place in the discipline's rankings. Her previous best finish in the Downhill was 3rd in 2019-2020.
"The Downhill World Cup title was a dream of mine that I thought I would never achieve. This is something huge. The season has been crazy," Brignone said.
Federica Brignone has won two Downhill World Cup races this season, in St. Anton and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. They are the only two Downhill World Cup wins of her career. She also came 3rd in Cortina d'Ampezzo, her only other podium of the Downhill World Cup season.
Brignone finished 10th in the Downhill at the World Championships at Saalbach 2025. It was the only event at those Championships she started in which she did not achieve a podium place.
The 34-year-old is already the oldest winner of a women's World Cup race. Of her 37 World Cup victories, more than half (22) have come after she turned 30.
Federica Brignone also claimed her second Overall and Giant Slalom Crystal Globes, after first winning them in the 2019-2020 season.
