Cornelia Huetter celebrated her second victory of the season in St. Moritz. Thanks to a perfect downhill line, she beat Lara Gut-Behrami by 0.18 seconds. Sofia Goggia finished third, 0.33 seconds behind the Austrian.
The 32-year-old, who won the first downhill of the season at the Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek, claimed her eighth Alpine World Cup victory, the fifth in the super-G. She is the first Austrian to win the super-G in St. Moritz since Michaela Dorfmeister in 2006.
"I think I skied the last part really well tactically, I picked up a lot of speed. When I looked at it, I didn't think it would be that difficult, but when I was skiing I was like, oh my God, what's going on here? But cool, it obviously went well. It's working quite well and it's fun, so it can continue like this," Huetter said.
Lara Gut-Behrami finished second in St. Moritz today, just as she did in the first Super-G of the season in Beaver Creek. The Swiss celebrated her third podium finish in the third speed race. It is also Gut-Behrami's 9th World Cup podium in St. Moritz. She also won the bronze medal in the super-G at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz.
"I wasn't happy because I made a pretty big mistake. But I know that in Super-G there is always a fine line between skiing well and making mistakes. I made mistakes last week too, so I was a bit upset. But overall I'm happy with my skiing. My confidence is good, at least in terms of speed. I hope I can take that with me into the giant slalom," said Gut-Behrami.
The winner of the first Super-G of the season in Beaver Creek Sofia Goggia finished in third place today. It was the 16th Super-G World Cup podium for the 32-year-old speed specialist.
"It was not a super nice run, but also not a bad one. I didn’t ski as fluid as last week. But in the end, it was not so bad. I was a bit nervous this morning. St. Moritz is always a tricky slope. You do need to have your strategy in your head after the inspection. You have to find the balance," Goggia said.
Teammates Elena Curtoni and Federica Brignone completed the Top 5 at the Alpine Ski World Cup Super-G in St. Moritz today.
Lindsey Vonn made a spectacular comeback in St. Moritz today. Wearing bib number 31 in her 396th World Cup race, her first since January 2019 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, she finished 14th, 1.18 seconds behind Huetter.
"Today was the perfect start. I had a solid run. The first one is the hardest. I felt really good. The course was a little bit bumpy when I went, so in some sections I was a little more conservative with my lines. But in some sections, I was really fast. There’s definitely a lot that I have left to give, I just wanted to get to the finish today and be solid," Vonn said.
