Federica Brignone ends the Cortina speed weekend with another victory for the Italian team. It was her 11th Alpine Ski World Cup Super-G win. Lara Gut-Behrami finished in second place 0.58 seconds behind the Italian. Corinne Suter rounded up the podium in third place 1.08 seconds off the pace.
For the leader of the overall World Cup standings, this is her 31st World Cup victory. It's the second time Brignone has reached the podium in Cortina after yesterday's third place in the Downhill and the first victory in the Italian ski resort. Before this weekend, her best result was fourth, in a World Cup Super-G in January 2022.
Brignone today won a World Cup race on home snow for the first time in almost four years since winning the Super-G in Val di Fassa in February 2021.
This marked the fourth season victory for the 34-year-old Italian skier, following the Giant Slalom races in Sölden and Semmering, and the Downhill in St. Anton.
"From now on, it's a friendship with Cortina. I dreamed of a weekend like this, I'm very, very happy. The course setting was very fast and a bit like a downhill. I love a Super-G like this," Brignone said.
Like Yesterday in Wengen, the Swiss Team also celebrated a double podium in Cortina. Lara Gut-Behrami puts in a convincing run and comes in second. It's her 94th Alpine Ski World Cup Podium.
After 4 of 8 World Cup Super-G races, the 33-year-old skier from Ticino continues to lead the Super-G with 285 points ahead of Federica Brignone (250) and Sofia Goggia (196).
"Things are going in the right direction, maybe it's still missing that last bit that I had last year. Self-confidence is the wrong word to describe it, I can't think of a suitable word. But I can't complain, I ride fast, even if not everything goes 100 percent. But I always reach the finish line and I'm always healthy. It's probably also made me strong in my career that I always worked hard until I was satisfied," Gut-Behrami said.
Corinne Suter celebrated her return to Cortina with her season's first podium. The Swiss skier finished third at the Olimpia delle Tofane a year after tearing her cruciate ligament.
"It's nice for me that I'm enjoying skiing again. The positive results stand out for me. I was happy to be skiing with bib number 1. That's a good thing now because then I can ski according to instinct and not look too closely at the others," Suter said.
Lindsey Vonn did not finish the Super-G today. The 40-year-old slipped on her inside ski in the lower part of the course and fell.
