Federica Brignone wins first of the two Super-Gs to be held in St. Anton. In a shortened racecourse, Brignone mastered the difficult conditions with a risky and technically clean ride, especially in the last section. She is now the Italian woman with the most World Cup wins (21) in all disciplines and on the Super-G (8 victories).
Last season Federica Brignone won the women's Super-G Crystal Globe but until today her best result on the discipline this season was a 11th place in St. Moritz. She finished in the 26th place in Lake Louise.
"I did my best in the lower part. I love this slope. I attacked and I was at the limit after a mistake in the middle section. I really wanted to be even faster. Just driving nicely doesn't help. You have to want it", said Brignone.
"I'm really satisfied and proud of what I've been doing today on the slope. I started the season really badly. I had no confidence. It's coming back now and I know I can do what I want with my skis", added Brignone.
Joana Hählen finished in second place 0.54 seconds behind Brignone. Thanks to a risky ride, Joana Haehlen matched her best World Cup result on the World Cup when she finished in second place in the Downhill at the 2022 Finals Courchevel. It's her fourth Podium in the World Cup (two in the Downhill and two in the Super-G).
“At first I couldn't believe it at the finish line. I thought I had lost the race at the top. But I keep pushing. I had to go 'all-in', that's a Super-G, you have to drive like that", said Hählen.
Lara Gut-Behrami was third 0.66 seconds behind the Italian. It's her first podium in a speed discipline this season. Until today she was on the podium three times, all in the Giant Slalom.
"It is probably the most difficult Super-G in the World Cup. In the lower part is almost like in Giant Slalom. I'm not really happy with the way I skied, I'm just happy I was fast. I'm still struggling a little bit with the balance but I'm happy that tomorrow we have a second chance so that I can ski a little bit cleaner and maybe to push a little bit more between the turns", said Gut-Behrami.
