Federica Brignone claimed victory in an exciting Super-G event on Friday in La Thuile. The 34-year-old set the best time in a shortened course to claim victory, finishing just 0.01 seconds ahead of Sofia Goggia. Romane Miradoli rounded out the podium 0.05 seconds behind Brignone. The Italian skier celebrated her tenth win of the season, the most she has achieved in any season of her career. Brignone achieved 13 of her 37 Alpine Ski World Cup victories in the Super-G. Also, 26 of her 83 podiums came in the same discipline.
The 34-year-old is already the oldest winner of a women's World Cup race. Of her 37 World Cup victories, more than half (22) have come after she turned 30.
Brignone has been in the Top five in all Super-G races this season and on the podium in the last six, including three victories. For the second time since 2022, she has secured victory in three World Cup Super-G races within a single season.
With today's victory Federica Brignone secured her second Big Crystal Globe, having previously won it in the 2019-2020 season. She leads the Overall standings with 1,454 points, 379 points ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami, who has 1075 points.
Brignone has finished in the top five in the last 17 World Cup races in all disciplines that she has completed (with two DNFs in that span). Her last completed race outside the top five was the Beaver Creek Downhill in December, when she finished ninth.
Federica Brignone has won 37 World Cup races in all disciplines, including 13 in Super-G, and is now tied with Marlies Schild in eighth place on the women's all-time list.
"This is an amazing day. Winning in front of my people is something that I really wanted this year, it was one of my biggest dreams to win here in La Thuile. I couldn't finish my career without it. This was one of the dreams of the season. It's kind of crazy emotions now," Brignone said.
With only Super-G race remaining at the Finals in Sun Valley, Federica Brignone (570) leads Lara Gut-Behrami (565) by 5 points, with Sofia Goggia (466) in third, 104 points behind her teammate. Brignone has the opportunity to secure her second Super-G globe since 2022.
