Close to four years after her last Alpine Ski World Cup Victory in Lenzerheide on March 21, 2021, Alice Robinson climbed to the top of the podium in Kronplatz thanks to a furious second run. The 23-year-old set the fastest time and benefited from the failures of Sara Hector and first-run leader Federica Brignone.
Lara Gut-Behrami finished second 0.56 seconds behind the New Zealander. Paula Moltzan rounded off the podium at 0.94 seconds off the pace.
After today's win, Robinson matches compatriot Claudia Riegler as New Zealand’s most successful Alpine skier.
Robinson took the lead in the Giant Slalom standings over Sara Hector, who failed to finish the second run.
"It was always one of my favorite slopes. It has a bit of everything. You need courage to be fast. And the fans are great. It's incredible to win again. Last year I skied well, but always came second or third," Robinson said.
Lara Gut-Behrami claimed her first podium finish in the Giant Slalom of the season today. She has finished five times on the podium in Super-G and Downhill this season but hasn't finished in the top five in Giant Slalom.
"It's definitely positive that I skied well two runs. I was tired. I was unlucky again in the first run because I hit a stone. In the second I made another mistake and then I skied too controlled in the final section. That's why I was annoyed at the finish. But I've been fighting for my confidence in the Giant Slalom since September, and I've got that now. It's not always clean, but I'm making progress. I'll take that with me," Gut-Behrami said.
Paula Moltzan claimed a Giant Slalom podium for the first time in her career, improving on her previous personal best of fifth place which she achieved twice this season in Semmering and Killington.
"I told myself in the second run that I didn't want to ski like a baby, so I just gave it my all and made mistakes but recovered and kept the speed going," Moltzan said.
