The Super-G in Wengen brought another first-time winner. The 23-year-old Swiss skier Franjo Von Allmen proved he is one of the rising stars in the Alpine Ski World Cup. After finishing second in the Downhill in Bormio y Val Gardena this season and third in the Super-G in Garmisch Partenkirchen last season, he put in a clean strong performance to beat Vincent Kriechmayr by just 0.10 seconds. Teammate Stefan Rogentin finished in third place 0.58 seconds behind making the perfect start of the Lauberhorn weekend for the Swiss Team.
For the Swiss, it was the fifth victory in the seventh-speed race this season and the second in a Super-G after Marco Odermatt's win in Beaver Creek.
"I had a very good feeling today. The plan was to attack but ride cleanly. I knew it was a fairly error-free ride when I reached the finish line. Beat Feuz told me that he was counting on me. I had to show what I could do. That put a bit of pressure on me. But I was able to hold my ground. I hope he puts me back in first place tomorrow," Von Almmen said.
Vincent Kriechmayr narrowly missed the first Austrian victory of the season. And again like in Bormio, beaten by Norwegian Fredrik Möller, he had to admit defeat to a first-time winner.
"It was a flawless run. I'm satisfied, that's the most important thing for me. Unfortunately, I went too far at the top on a double left, it's soft there - I couldn't get anything back from the ski and I noticed how it slowed down my speed. At the bottom, my ride was obviously good. All in all, it was a good performance," Kriechmayr said.
After having a heavy fall on Wednesday and as a result, missing the second Downhill training session Stefan Rogentin completed a perfect run to finish in third place his third podium in the Alpine Ski World Cup, and second in Wengen. In 2023 he finished second in the Super-G in the Lauberhorn behind Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
