The Alpine Ski World Championships returned yesterday to Saalbach after 1991 with a special highlight: the opening of the Home of Snow. From February 2 to 16, the Home of Snow will be a meeting place for athletes, experts, media representatives, and partners of alpine skiing. This is where the World Championships will be celebrated, important discussions will be held, and valuable knowledge about winter sports will be exchanged.
The hosts are the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV), Saalbach, SalzburgerLand, and Tyrol, who are working together to shape the future of winter sports in a sustainable and innovative way. With a unique concept, Home of Snow provides a space for medal celebrations, regional cuisine, and acts as a platform for engaging lectures and discussions on sustainable winter sports.
Christian Scherer, Chairman of the Management Board and Secretary General of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) was delighted with the successful start: "The Home of Snow is setting new standards by combining sport, culture, and innovation. It is more than just an event space - it is a place where the future of winter sports is actively shaped. In cooperation with the ÖSV and the host regions of Saalbach, SalzburgerLand, and Tyrol, we have today opened the doors of a unique meeting space for the first time, which combines real hospitality and emotional experiences. Here, ski stars are not only cheered on live but are also duly honored and celebrated after the official medal presentation."
Martin Enn, chairman of the Saalbach Hinterglemm Tourism Association, emphasized: "At the Home of Snow, we focus on people and their emotions - and in a very special way. It's about innovation, change, and making winter sports accessible and enjoyable for everyone. True to our motto 'Home of Casual', we want to set new standards and show that winter sports can be very different - casual."
Leo Bauernberger, Managing Director of SalzburgerLand Tourism explains: "With the Home of Snow, we are creating - together with our partners - a place of emotions, alpine hospitality, networking, and concentrated winter sports expertise. The house will be the meeting place for the global ski and winter sports community, for top media representatives from home and abroad as well as our important partners from business and the international travel industry. In the Home of Snow, winter sports can be experienced. We aim to promote enthusiasm for winter activities in the long term and, in particular, to pass it on to the next generations. The partner evenings - including the SalzburgerLand evening under the motto 'Alpine Combination - Snow Lifestyle' on February 12th and the closing event on February 16th together with the Austrian Tourist Board and the other regional tourism organizations, which will be all about our high-quality Austrian cuisine, will make an important contribution to this with contributions from high-ranking experts and an atmospheric supporting program."
Patricio Hetfleisch, CMO & Authorized Representative of Tirol Werbung, Head of Marketing and Communications for the Tirol brand, emphasizes the importance of the event and the joint commitment: "The Home of Snow provides an ideal setting for thinking about the future of winter sports and developing solutions. Partners and experts meet here to provide important impetus and jointly determine the direction for the coming decades. It is a place for constructive discussions and joint action to further shape winter sports. The numerous formats of all partners and the Tirol Evening, as well as the event evenings of the TVB St. Anton am Arlberg, Innsbruck Tourism, and Ötztal Tourism offer opportunities for this."
In addition to dealing with future topics, visitors to the Home of Snow can expect the presentation of the new Ski Austria World Cup Schöffel racing suit. Additionally, the A1 Tech Talk will focus on technological innovations in the skiing industry. Under the motto "SkiVision", the ÖSV presents digital innovations in skiing, and the Future: Focus Talk provides insights into the latest developments in winter sports.
The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) is the national sports association for skiing and snowboarding in Austria. It is committed to the further development of high-performance sports and is involved in the areas of sustainability and youth development. Together with the Saalbach Hinterglemm region and the two regional tourism organizations SalzburgerLand Tourismus and Tirol Werbung, the ÖSV is initiating the Home of Snow as part of the 2025 Saalbach World Ski Championships.
The Home of Snow will be a lively center for all things related to skiing for the entire duration of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach.
