Lara Gut-Behrami wins the first Super-G race in Kvitfjell ahead of the Austrian duo of Cornelia Hütter (+0.12) and Mirjam Puchner (+0.13). It's her eighth victory of the season consolidating her lead in the World Cup Overall standings 305 points ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin.
The 32-year-old Swiss looks unstoppable at the moment and celebrated her 45th win in the Alpine Ski World Cup.
Lara Gut-Behrami (460 points) leads Cornelia Hütter (435) by 25 points in this season's women's World Cup Super-G standings with 200 points up for grabs in the remaining two events. Federica Brignone is third with 366 points.
The skier from Ticino has won three Super-G races this season and finished on the podium in third position in another two.
With 22 victories in the Super-G Gut-Behrami is second for most World Cup Super-G wins among women, only trailing Lindsey Vonn (28).
"I skied the lower part very well. I tried to drive smoothly in the upper part, but I could have driven more aggressively. Expanding your lead in the discipline rankings is important. I try to give my best. Being ahead at the finish is always nice. I think the main thing is that we can race. We hardly skied any in February. We waited more than we skied. For Sunday I have to make sure I can go a little faster in the middle part. I try to ski cleanly and do my best," Gut-Behrami said.
"I always try to do my best. I always want to show that I can ski well. You shouldn't even start doing the math, otherwise you'll lose your liveliness and ease. I should just enjoy my skiing without thinking too much. It’s amazing, I am really happy. I never expected to be still racing at 32 and to be that consistent is great," she added.
Cornelia Hütter achieved today her sixth podium of the season, her fourth one in the Super-G.
"It wasn’t easy. The anticipation was huge because we had just been sitting around and waiting for the last few days. It was a good race, if it stays like that I can be happy. I'm already satisfied, we have to be happy about second place. Of course, you always want to win, and Lara now scores more points than me, but I'm ready, and we can compete in the next race again. She is very strong. I always try to keep up and I am happy that I can keep up," Hütter said.
Mirjam Puchner, the silver medal in this discipline at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, achieved today her third podium in the Super-G in the World Cup. She has never finished higher than third place in a Super-G event. She finished third in 2021-2022 in Lake Louise and in 2023-2024 in Altenmarkt.
"Everything worked out pretty well, it didn't feel like it was that special at the top, but at the finish line, I was really happy when I saw how close I was. It’s a sign that I showed a good race," Puchner said.
