Marco Odermatt Takes Third Consecutive win in Wengen Downhill

Fourth Downhill of the 2024-2025 winter season and the fourth double victory for the Swiss team. The Swiss Downhill skiers confirmed in Wengen their current dominance in the discipline on home turf. Marco Odermatt not only claimed his second victory of the season in the Downhill after his win in Val Gardena, but also gave the Swiss their fourth win in the fourth race of the Alpine Ski World Cup season.

He finished ahead of his teammate and yesterday's Super-G winner Franjo Von Allmen. Miha Hrobat from Slovenia rounded up the podium in third place 0.57 seconds behind Odermatt.

Odermatt smashes the course record. With a final time of 2:22.58, he is over a second faster than the Italian Kristian Ghedina who set the previous record when he won in 1997 (2:24.34).

The 27-year-old breaks another record. He now joins Franz Klammer and Beat Feuz as the only three to have triumphed on the Lauberhorn three times.

"If you can race in front of this crowd, in these conditions, on a perfect winter day like this and share another victory with a teammate, the fourth double Swiss victory in a row, this is incredible," Odermatt said.

"It’s crazy, it’s not just one guy, it’s the whole team who ski fast. We are pushing each other in the training and we help each other where we can and this makes us the best team in the world," he added.

23-year-old rising star Franjo Von Allmen completed a perfect weekend in Wengen and claimed his 5th podium in the Alpine Ski World Cup.

"The moment when you cross the finish line with the best time and see all the Swiss flags - that's unbelievable. I’m really happy, one more beautiful day, with a really good crowd and beautiful weather. It was perfect," von Allmen said.

Miha Hrobat claimed a first-ever podium finish for Slovenia in the 57 years of World Cup Downhill racing in Wengen. It's his second podium of the season after his third place in the opening Downhill of the season in Beaver Creek.

"Second podium in a season, and second time third place it’s a very good result. Just those Swiss guys were a bit faster. But I know my time will come, to step on the top of the podium. I knew that I was skiing well. I like starting first, so my confidence was high. I pushed from the start, a really good run," Hrobat said.

After winning the season's first four races, Swiss skiers cop the first three places in the Downhill standings: Marco Odermatt (325 points), Franjo Von Allmen (243), and Justin Murisier (178).

Marco Odermatt's 43rd World Cup victory was overshadowed by Kriechmayr's wild crash. The 33-year-old complained of "severe pain in his knee" according to ORF information. Kriechmayr was immediately taken to Innsbruck for further examinations.
