On September 27, Sun Valley was officially named the host of the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals.
Since 1993 the International Ski Federation has hosted a World Cup Final at the end of each season in March. During the Finals, Men's and Women's races are held in four disciplines: Downhill, Super-G, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. Only a limited number of racers are invited to ski at the Finals, including the top 25 in the World Cup standings in each discipline, plus the current junior World Champions in each discipline, with World Cup points only awarded to the top 15 finishers in each race.
From 22 to 27 March, the Sun Valley World Cup 2025 Finals will take place on the race course "Challenger".
"Sun Valley Resort has always been about ‘firsts,’ as America’s original destination ski resort with the world’s first chairlift," said Pete Sonntag, Sun Valley Resort GM and VP. "From the very beginning, Sun Valley has attracted top-level ski racers from all over the globe with our technical and challenging terrain, setting the standard for high-level competition. Our legacy in ski racing dates back to the first Harriman Cup races of the 1930s, our first FIS World Cup in 1975, and most recently the U.S. Alpine Championships in 2023 and 2024."

Marco Odermatt goes to Sun Valley as the winner of the Overall Crystal Globe. On Friday, March 15, in Hafjell, Marco Odermatt secured the Overall Crystal Globe. The 27-year-old Swiss Ace has won the Overall Crystal Globe four consecutive times: 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025. He could finish the 2024-2025 winter season with 13 Crystal Globes (4 Overall, 2 in Downhill, 3 in Super-G, and 4 in Giant Slalom).
With La Thuile's victory Federica Brignone secured her second Big Crystal Globe, having previously won it in the 2019-2020 season. Before the Finals, she leads the Overall standings with 1,454 points, 379 points ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami, who has 1075 points.
March 22nd Downhill / Men 11:00 CET
Marco Odermatt leads the Downhill standings with 605 points. The fight for the Downhill Crystal Globe is still open after Franjo Von Allmen's victory in Kvitfjell. The 23-year-old rising star has reduced the gap by 20 points to 83. He must win the Downhill in Sun Valley and Marco Odermatt must not finish better than 15th to win the globe.
Odermatt is chasing a third Downhill victory in a single season for the first time in his career.
This season, Switzerland has dominated the Men's Downhill, securing 17 of the 24 available podium places. In the first four races of the season, Swiss skiers claimed the top two positions. In Crans Montana and at the second downhill event held in Kvitfjell, they achieved a clean sweep of the podium.
If the Austrian Men's Ski Team fails to secure a podium finish in the final Downhill race at Sun Valley, it would be their second consecutive World Cup season without a Downhill victory. If the trend in the Finals does not reverse, it will be a historic first. In the 1986-1987 and 1987-1988 seasons, the Austrian Team did not win a Downhill race, but they have never gone a season without finishing on the podium in this discipline.
March 22nd Downhill / Women 12:30 CET
The fight for the title in the Downhill ramps up after the two Downhills in Kvitfjell. Federica Brignone leads the standings with 384 Downhill points, Cornelia Hütter is second (368), 16 points behind Brignone, and Sofia Goggia is third with 348, 36 points behind her teammate.
Federica Brignone won the Downhill at Garmisch in January. She also won the Downhill at St Anton this season. They are the only two Downhill wins of her career.
Cornelia Hütter won the opening Downhill of the season at Beaver Creek and the first Downhill event held in Kvitfjell.
Sofia Goggia is aiming for her fifth Downhill Crystal Globe, having won in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023.The 32-year-old Italian skier has won 19 World Cup Downhill races and can become the fourth woman to win 20, joining Lindsey Vonn (43), Annemarie Moser-Pröll (36) and Renate Götschl (24).
March 22nd Super-G / Women 11:00 CET
In the Super-G standings, Federica Brignone (570) leads Lara Gut-Behrami (565) by 5 points, with Sofia Goggia (466) in third, 104 points behind her teammate. Brignone has the opportunity to secure her second Super-G globe since 2022.
The Italian skier celebrated her tenth win of the season in La Thuile, the most she has achieved in any season of her career. Brignone achieved 13 of her 37 Alpine Ski World Cup victories in the Super-G. Also, 26 of her 83 podiums came in the same discipline. The 34-year-old is already the oldest winner of a women's World Cup race. Of her 37 World Cup victories, more than half (22) have come after she turned 30.
Last season Lara Gut-Behrami clinched the Super-G Crystal Globe. The 33-year-old Swiss skier joined the Club of Super-G stars with her fifth Crystal Globe (2014, 2016, 2021, 2023, and 2024). German Katja Seizinger (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998) and American Lindsey Vonn (2009,2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015) are the other two women in this exclusive group.
On the Men's side, Austrian Hermann Maier (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004) and Norwegian Aksel Svindal (2006, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2014) are also in the exclusive club of the winners of five Super-G Crystal Globes.
March 23rd Super-G / Men 11:30 CET
Marco Odermatt has already secured his third straight Super-G Crystal Globe. Mattia Casse, the only skier with a chance of taking the title from Odermatt, did not start in Kvitfjell after suffering a fall during Downhill training. Odermatt is the fifth man to win three or more Super-G season titles, joining Kjetil Jansrud on three. Aksel Lund Svindal, and Hermann Maier share the Men's record with five Super-G titles, while Pirmin Zurbriggen won four. The 27-year-old Swiss superstar is the first man since Svindal from 2012-14 to win three Super G globes in a row. Maier holds the men's record with four Super G globes in a row from 1998-2001.
Four Swiss racers are currently among the Top-7 in the Super-G standings: Marco Odermatt leads in first place, Stefan Rogentin is third, Franjo Von Allmen holds sixth, and Alexis Monney is in seventh.
Entering the Finals in Sun Valley, Vincent Kriechmayr had nine World Cup wins in both Super-G and Downhill. The 33-year-old Austrian skier is currently in second place in the Super-G standings, trailing Odermatt, with his top performances this season being two second-place finishes in Bormio and Wengen. He claimed the Super-G World Cup title in 2021, finished second in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2024, and finished in third place in 2022 and 2023.
March 25th Giant Slalom / Women 1st run 9:30 - 2nd run 12:00 CET
Alice Robinson leads Federica Brignone (500) by 20 points in the Giant Slalom standings.
Close to four years after her last Alpine Ski World Cup Victory in Lenzerheide on March 21, 2021, Alice Robinson climbed to the top of the podium in Kronplatz on January. The 23-year-old has finished outside the podium just once in eight Giant Slalom races, when she skied out in the first run in Killington. No New Zealander has ever won a World Cup Crystal Globe.
The 34-year-old Italian skier won her third consecutive Giant Slalom race in Are. In her past ten World Cup Giant Slalom races, Brignone has won six times, while failing to finish the other three races.
With her fifth Giant Slalom win of the season in Are. With her 17th victory in the discipline, Brignone surpassed Tessa Worley and Annemarie Moser-Pröll in third place on the all-time list of winners in women's Giant Slalom. Only Mikaela Shiffrin with 22, and Vreni Schneider with 20 are ahead of the Italian.
March 25th Giant Slalom / Men 1st run 9:30 - 2nd run 12:00 CET
Marco Odermatt secured the Giant Slalom Crystal Globe in Hafjell. He has won the last four Giant Slalom Crystal Globes. March 25th Slalom / Men 1st run 9:00 - 2nd run 12:00 CET
The battle for the Slalom Crystal Globe will definitely be decided in the last race of the season at the World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, USA.
Henrik Kristoffersen leads the Slalom standings with 612 points. The 30-year-old Norwegian skier has just a 47-point cushion ahead of Loic Meillard (565). Clement Noel (526) is in third place 86 points behind.
Loic Meillard and Kristoffersen have been the most consistent Slalom skiers this season. In 11 World Cup Slalom races, Meillard has two DNFs but has been in the Top-5 in the other nine races. In this season's World Cup Slalom races, Kristoffersen has one DNF and has finished within the top eight in the other ten races, achieving five podium finishes and two wins in Val d'Isere and Kranjska Gora.
Clement Noel has achieved a career-high by winning four World Cup Slalom races this season. His performances have been inconsistent: out of ten World Cup starts, he has secured four victories, but only managed two other finishes better than 10th place—a sixth place in Alta Badia and a seventh place today—along with two DNFs.
Kristoffersen can win his fourth Slalom Crystal Globe (2016, 2020, and 2022). He can join Alberto Tomba on four Slalom globes, behind only Ingemar Stenmark (8) and Marcel Hirscher (6).
Winning the Slalom Crystal Globe will be a first for Loïc Meillard and Clément Noël.

Despite being the reigning Olympic Slalom champion, Noel has never won the Slalom Crystal Globe, having finished second three times (2019, 2020, and 2021).
March 25th Slalom / Women 1st run 10:00 - 2nd run 13:00 CET
The Slalom Crystal Globe battle will be decided in the last race of the season. Four skiers remain contenders for the title in this discipline. Zrinka Ljutic tops the Slalom standings with 515 points. Camille Rast follows in second place with 474 points, trailing the Croatian by 41 points. Katharina Liensberger is in third with 464 points, 51 points behind the leader. Wendy Holdener, in fourth place with 419 points, still has a slim chance of clinching the title.
Since 2017, only Katharina Liensberger in 2021 has broken the Slalom dominance of Petra Vlhova and Mikaela Shiffrin.
Mikaela Shiffrin claimed her 100th Alpine Ski World Cup win in Sestriere on 23 February 2025, her 63rd World Cup Slalom victory.
Last season, Shiffrin won her eighth Slalom Crystal Globe tying her with Lindsey Vonn (Downhill) and Ingemar Stenmark (Slalom and Giant Slalom), who also hold eight discipline Globes.
